For High- and Ultra-High-Pressure Multi-Phase and Supercritical Fluid Services
High-Pressure Gas-Lubricated Tandem Cartridge Seal
For High- and Ultra-High-Pressure Multi-Phase and Supercritical Fluid Services
Engineered for critical rotating equipment operating with high-pressure, ultra-high-pressure, multi-phase, and supercritical fluids, the Flexaseal Style HPGT (and UHPGT variant) is a gas-lubricated, non-contacting tandem cartridge seals designed for maximum reliability and performance. It ensures stable, wear-free operation and secure containment of hazardous or valuable gases in demanding applications.
Style HPGT
Design Features & Benefits
WHY USE HPGT?
- Non-contacting, gas-lubricated design minimizes heat and extends MTBR.
- Bi-directional lift-off grooves create a stiff dry-gas film at low pressure/speed for gentle start/stop.
- Stationary multi-spring configuration for uniform face loading and high-speed stability.
- FEA-optimized faces & components preserve flatness under extreme load—supporting low leakage.
- Rigid tungsten carbide balance sleeves & mating rings resist deformation and fracturing.
- FlexSiCG primary faces combine stiffness with forgiveness during upsets; excellent heat dissipation for slow-rolls and frequent starts/stops.
- Tandem with containment routes inboard leakage to flare or vapor recovery.
- UHPGT variant adds spring-energized PTFE secondary seals to mitigate explosive decompression—rated to 3,000 psi (207 bar).

Key Features:
- Gas-lubricated, non-contacting design eliminates face wear, minimizes heat generation, and extends MTBR.
- Bi-directional rotary face lift-off grooves generate stiff drygas film between primary and mating rings.
- Stationary multi-spring configuration ensures stability at high shaft speeds.
- Rigid tungsten carbide balance sleeves resist deformation under high pressures and loads.
- Proprietary FlexSiCG face material offers the latest in material science with high rigidity and forgiveness during upset conditions, and excellent heat dissipation for slowrolls and start/stops.
- FEA-optimized seal faces minimize distortion under high pressures, preserving a stiff interface capable of supporting extreme applied loads
- The tandem arrangement with containment ensures that primary leakage is directed to flare or vapor recovery.
- Standard HPGT variant, as shown in Figure 1, uses O-ring secondary seals. Optional spring-energized PTFE secondary seals (UHPGT variant) available for safe, reliable sealing in ultra-high-pressure or sCO2 service where elastomers risk explosive decompression.
